Scotsman CU0920MAX-1 20" Undercounter Ice Maker 100 lb Production Specifications
Scotsman Ice Systems is a global leader in commercial ice machine technology and is now a cornerstone brand of the Ali Group, following its acquisition of Welbilt. In the Canadian market, Scotsman is supported by a robust national infrastructure with primary distribution and technical oversight centralized in Mississauga, Ontario, and regional logistics hubs in Calgary, Alberta, and Montreal, Quebec.
Shipping
Scotsman units are precision-engineered refrigeration systems. Because they contain delicate evaporators and high-performance compressors, they are handled with specialized care to ensure mechanical integrity upon arrival.
- Fulfillment Hubs: Most Canadian inventory for the Prodigy Plus® and Essential Ice® series is dispatched from the Mississauga central hub. Western Canadian orders are frequently fulfilled via the Calgary regional warehouse to reduce transit times.
- Lead Times: Standard "in-stock" modular heads and undercounter units are typically processed and shipped within 2 to 4 business days. Specialized industrial flakers or high-capacity nugget machines may have lead times of 6 to 10 weeks if coming from US-based manufacturing.
- Logistics: Units are shipped upright, crated, and secured to reinforced skids via professional LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) carriers.
- Inspection Requirement: A thorough inspection is mandatory. Any damage to the exterior stainless steel, water inlets, or "Tip-N-Tell" indicators (which show if the unit was tilted) must be noted on the bill of lading to protect your freight claim rights.
Warranty
Scotsman’s warranty is among the most comprehensive in the industry, reflecting the durability of their "smart" ice-making technology.
- Prodigy Plus® Coverage: These premium units typically carry a 3-year parts and labour warranty on all components.
- Extended Component Protection: The evaporator (the heart of the machine) is backed by a 5-year parts and labour warranty, while the compressor and condenser carry a 5-year parts warranty (labour covered for the first 3 years).
- Essential Ice® Coverage: These smaller, high-value units generally carry a 3-year parts and labour warranty.
- Service Authorization: All repairs must be performed by a factory-authorized service agent and pre-approved by the Scotsman/Welbilt service department to maintain coverage.
Service & Support
The merger into the Ali Group has unified Scotsman’s support with one of the largest service networks in North America.
- Authorized Technicians: Field service is provided by a national network of CFESA-certified technicians. In Canada, major providers like Heritage Service Group and Key Food Equipment serve as primary warranty authorized agents.
- Parts Availability: Parts Town Canada acts as the master distributor for genuine OEM Scotsman parts. Significant inventory is maintained in Ontario and Alberta to ensure next-day availability for critical items like water pumps, sensors, and control boards.
- AutoAlert™ Diagnostics: Most modern Scotsman units feature external indicator lights that communicate the machine's operating status and alert staff when it’s time to descale or sanitize, reducing unnecessary service calls.
Exceptions and Exclusions
- Water Quality: Damage caused by scale buildup or "slime" due to poor water quality is the #1 cause of failure and is not covered by warranty. A manufacturer-approved water filtration system (like those from Everpure) is highly recommended.
- Cleaning Neglect: The warranty does not cover labor for cleaning or sanitizing the machine. Failure to clean the condenser coil every 30 to 90 days can lead to compressor failure, which may result in a denied claim.
- Environmental Factors: Operating the machine in ambient temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C) or in unventilated "closet" installations will void the performance guarantee.
- Consumables: Water filters, light bulbs, and plastic bin scoops are considered maintenance items and are not covered under the standard warranty.
- Consequential Loss: Scotsman is not responsible for the cost of "replacement ice" or lost revenue due to machine downtime.
